Meredith College 2023-24 Supplemental Essay Guide

Meredith College 2023-24 Application Essay Question Explanations

The Requirements:  1 short essay of 250 words, 1 essay of 500 words

Supplemental Essay Type(s): Why, Activity

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences. (250 words)

Activity essays like this one are more common than M.C. Escher posters in college dorm rooms. The most strenuous part, however, is selecting the activity you want to write about. So, we return to our favorite mantra: tell admissions something they couldn’t glean from anywhere else in your application. If you wrote your Common App essay about your time scooping ice cream at your local creamery, focus on a different activity or work experience that reveals a new aspect of your personality. This can be a great opportunity to highlight your leadership skills and any accolades you may have received. Were you nominated as captain of your ultimate frisbee team? Were you tapped to manage a team of volunteers at the food pantry? No matter what you choose, it should probably be something you’ve been involved in for a while, so you can demonstrate your growth and the impact that you have had on others.

The following writing sample is an optional component of your application. If you choose to submit your thoughtful response to the following question, please keep to a maximum length of 500 words or less.

Please describe how you’ve familiarized yourself with Meredith College and two aspects of our community that attract and inspire you.

Well, well, well… The admissions department wants to know why you hope to attend Meredith College next fall. (What a surprise.) Start by browsing the Meredith website and reminding yourself what attracted you to this school to begin with! Does Meredith offer a specific major that’s hard to find at other institutions? Is there a professor you’d really like to learn from or a club you want to join? Once you’ve honed in on at least two aspects of the Meredith experience that inspire you, address how you’d like to engage with those offerings upon arriving on campus. Whatever your reasoning may be, share it with admissions—and remember, the best essays tell an authentic story rich with specific details.

We try our best to make sure our guides are as up to date as possible, but we still recommend confirming each prompt and word count with the school in question.
