Supplemental Essay Type(s): Community, Why
The New School wants to know why you’re drawn to their institution. What about The New School community and academic offerings interest you? And, perhaps more importantly, why should admissions be vying to have you on campus next year? This essay is an opportunity for you to tell admissions exactly why they should accept you. The last sentence is the most important: What will you make you a valuable member of campus? The best way to answer this question is with confidence and information Begin by going to the school’s website and familiarizing yourself with the clubs, activities, academic offerings, and more. Be specific so The New School knows you put time into your answer (and didn’t just copy and paste from a Why essay you wrote for another school). Will you take full advantage of the self-directed liberal design program, Integrated Design, to fuse your interests in fashion design and sustainability? Will the abundance of video-game knowledge and experience you’ve accumulated over the years make you a fantastic addition to, and a fierce competitor in, The New School Game Club? Think of things that get you interacting with others when it comes to your areas of expertise or interest. Whatever you choose to illuminate for admissions, make sure your essay reveals something new about you and connects the bridge between who you have been in your current community and who you will be on The New School’s campus.
