We have school-specific prompt guides for almost 100 schools.
Regular Decision:
The Requirements: 1 essay of 250 words.
Supplemental Essay Type(s): Why, Community
The first part of this is a version of the classic Why essay: Why do you want to spend the next four years of your life at Syracuse? If nothing comes to mind immediately, go to the school website and explore. What catches your eye? Are there notable alumni in your field? Does Syracuse offer a major or minor that intrigues you? What about internships or research opportunities? Remember that admissions will not hold you to your interest in a specific club or organization, so don’t stress over your vision; just show that you’ve done your research.
Once you’ve answered the first part of the prompt, move on to part two: How will you contribute to a diverse, inclusive, and respectful campus community? Syracuse wants to accept open-minded and socially aware applicants to attend next fall. Maybe, as a non-binary student (with excellent sign-decorating skills) you hope to get involved in Pride Union. Perhaps you created a Socialism club at your High School and hope to continue fighting for change with the Revolutionary Socialists at Syracuse. Are you the type of person who yearns to learn and grow? Do you envision a more fair and just future for the next generation of college students? Do you meet criticism with an open mind and heart? You only have 250 words, so our advice is to freewrite first, edit later.
