Hillsdale wants to know who you are and where they might find you when you’re not cramming for exams and soaking up your professor’s sage wisdom next year. Start by thinking about the here and now. Where can you be found after school? How do you spend your weekends? Think of something that gets you interacting with others or diving deep into your area of expertise. Admissions wants to know what your area of impact will look like at Hillsdale: an on-campus job, a unique hobby, or maybe an organization to which you contribute innovative ideas and exquisite cupcake decorating skills. (Bake sale, anyone?) Whatever you write about, make sure your response to this prompt shows that you have put some serious thought into what your life will look like at Hillsdale College.
Hillsdale College wants to know that you’ve given your application some thought. You’re not applying all willy nilly, but have carefully considered your options and decided that Hillsdale would be a great institution at which to study.
First, Hillsdale asks you to define a classical liberal arts education. If you’re not really sure how a liberal arts degree differs from any other kind of degree, start by educating yourself. Next, articulate for admissions why a well-rounded education is important to you. Do you think a liberal arts education will allow you to build upon your communication and problem solving skills, preparing you for a career in civil service? Maybe you think it will help you to be more marketable once you enter the working world, prepared to work in a variety of fields (which is especially helpful since you’re undecided). Demonstrate your interest in a liberal arts education (and Hillsdale, specifically for brownie points) and admissions is bound to be impressed!
