CEA’s Take on AI

At College Essay Advisors, we are all for technological innovations. We wouldn’t exist without wifi, video conferencing software, Google Docs, and our beloved espresso machines! 

Ever since Generative AI has entered mainstream consciousness, we’ve been exploring the tools’ capabilities–and limitations–alongside everyone else. We’ve come to the conclusion that when used the right way, for idea generation and topic conceptualization, AI tools can serve as fantastic accessible alternatives for college essay tutors to help applicants brainstorm ideas, organize their thoughts, and conquer that blank page paralysis.

In fact, we’re so confident in its ability to act as a beneficial resource (when employed correctly) that we built College EssAI, an ethical AI tool programmed with our methodology informed by 20+ years of college essay advising experience. The key is that the tool uses AI to guide students through the drafting process, not write for them.

We know that AI has a place in college prep, and we’re happy to expand the number of students who can access our expertise, but AI is still nowhere savvy enough to replace the real human experts, which is why we do not use AI in our one-on-one college essay advising services.

Chatbots are not yet sophisticated enough to mirror the Advising process unless given a ton of parameters (which is exactly what we’ve done with College EssAI). As it stands, students using chatbots have to know how to work with the tools to obtain excellent results, which means prompt engineering, frequent troubleshooting, and employing critical thinking skills. 

Our Advisors bring 20+ years of experience to the table, and we do not believe AI has a place in the process we’ve been following to help students gain admission to their top-choice schools across the country; because honestly, we trust our own brains and proven success more than we do the outputs of algorithms.
